Social Media Strategy - Step 2: Goals, Objectives & KPIs


In step 1, we discussed the Social Media Audit. Now, we are diving into a very important piece of the overall strategy, Goals, Objectives, and KPIs (Key Performance Indicators).


"Goals are the organization's 'Destination.' They outline where you want to go and how you plan to get there" (Hootsuite, 2021).


"Objectives are your 'Road Map.' They are specific steps or tasks that must be completed to reach the Goal" (Hootsuite, 2021).


"KPIs or Key Performance Indicators are measurable items that can be used to track performance" (Hootsuite, 2021).


Additionally, two things to keep in mind when creating Goals and Objectives:

  1. Use the SMART Framework: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timely.

  2. Goals and Objectives should be quantitative (numbers), something that can be easily measured.
